Clarisonic: My #SonicRevolution Experience

Clarisonic Aria

I’ve always been interested in trying the Clarisonic, but it never made it’s way to the top of my shopping list, so I was really excited when I was given a chance to try out the Clarisonic Aria ($225 – comes with cleansing device, stand, magnetic charger and a sensitive brush head) and join the Sonic Revolution.  As a beauty blogger, taking care of my skin has always been very important.  I’m constantly trying out new products and playing with makeup.  Rarely does a day go by that I don’t have something on my face, and it’s important for me to be able to give my face a great, deep clean at the end of the day.  Not only that, but exfoliation has been key to keeping my skin in great shape.

Since its launch in 2004, Clarisonic has seen its share of fame.  With several cleansing systems to suit your price range and needs (Classic – $225, Mia – $139, Mia 2 – $175, Aria and Plus – $259), different brush heads, skincare products, and now the Opal (for maximum serum infusion) & the Pedi (I’m sure you can guess what this is for – I can not wait to get my hands on this one!) they’ve definitely done a good job of covering various skincare needs.

Clarisonic works using the Sonic Method – no vibration or spinning is involved in the way the brush works.  Instead, the brush heads oscilliate (well, the centre section, as seen below) at a sonic frequency – more than 300 movements/second – which provides a deeper clean than you would get with your hands alone.   It also works to target the different areas of the face and has a one minute cycle for optimal use: 20 seconds for the forehead, 20 seconds for the nose and chin and 10 seconds for each cheek.  The device will stop and beep between each section so you know when to move on.

I’ve been using the Clarisonic Aria for almost a month and a half now, and my experience has definitely been a positive one.  Read on as I go into more detail about my experience with it, recommendations and how I’ve fit it into my life.

Let’s start from the beginning.  When I received the Clarisonic Aria, I really couldn’t wait to start using it.  I’ve heard so many fellow bloggers and friends rave about theirs and I was eager to see what it would do for me.  Luckily, I had the self control to wait until I had taken some pictures (I believe it went something like this: open package – squeal – snap some shots – run upstairs and wash face) before I let it get to work.  I’ve since incorporated it into my daily routine and use it once a day, at night, to help cleanse my skin before bed.

I will make a couple of quick notes here to help you with your experience if you decided to join the Sonic Revolution and give Clarisonic a try. First, I highly suggest starting off with the sensitive brush head (there are 5 different heads available – delicate, sensitive, normal, deep pore & acne) on the lowest setting (there are three speeds/intensities you can select from) to see how your skin will react.  I don’t really have sensitive skin, but since this provides a deep clean, you will probably see some irritation at first.  The high setting can be pretty intense on your skin, and I’ve stuck with the lightest setting since I’ve started using it.  My brother, on the other hand, has oily skin and a tendency for larger scale breakouts and uses the Clarisonic on its highest setting.  Once you’ve gotten used to it and you can see what your skin needs and can handle you can play around with it more.  Another thing you’re going to want to be mindful of is the fact that yes, your skin might break out a little during your initial.  I’d heard of this happening and yes, it did happen to me as well.  Here’s the deal: now that you’re bringing this deep cleansing device into your life, all of the gunk and junk that has been hiding under the surface is being brought up.  This purge is most likely going to result in a breakout as this stuff gets removed from your system.  If it continues, get in contact with Clarisonic to see what they recommend, but chances are it will be gone within a couple of weeks.

Anyways, moving on to the good stuff – the results.  I am really happy to say that I’m glad the Clarisonic Aria has made its way into my life.  Since I’ve started using it I’ve noticed that my skin is clearer and I experience fewer breakouts.  Thanks to the exfoliating properties, I’ve also noticed a change in the texture of my skin.  It’s smoother and softer and I actually notice more of a glow to it (dullness banishing – check!).  It may be a little on the pricey side, but I really believe that if you can afford it, it’s worth the investment.  Clarisonic recommends that you replace your brush head every three months and you can definitely make it last if you take care of it.  Wash it once a week with antibacterial soap in warm water to prevent product buildup and keep it germ free.

Have you ever tried any of the Clarisonic devices?  Are you planning to?  I would love to hear about your experiences with Clarisonic in the comments section below!
