Over the years I’ve heard many people rave about Dermalogica and how their products are skin savers. It makes sense – these products are devoleped by dermatologists at The International Dermal Institute, meaning these people know skin and how it works and can figure out exactly what you need to ensure that yours looks and feels its best. This past month I had a chance to try out my first product and I definitely jumped at it. I couldn’t wait to give the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant a try and got right into it. I was really surprised to find out that this isn’t your typical exfoliator, which I will get to in just a minute.
The Daily Microfoliant contains a list of ingredients that reads like Santa’s Nice list for your face. Rice powder gives this exfoliator its unique look and feel, while Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes get to work micro-exfoliating dead skin cells for a smoother look and feel. Green Tea, Ginkgo and Colloidal Oatmeal help to balance out the formula with their calming properties. Its a cocktail of goodness that leaves your skin looking bright and fresh and is gentle enough to be used daily (hence the name).
Now here’s where it gets interesting. When I first opened this bottle I was a little surprised – “Am I supposed to pour this out?” I was wondering. Then I read the instructions: After cleansing, dispense about a half-teaspoon of Daily Microfoliant into very wet hands and create a creamy paste by rubbing hands together. Apply to face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Massage gently for one minute, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. What? This exfoliator really is different – it comes in a powdered form that activates when water is added.
Once mixed, it becomes a creamy paste with gentle exfoliators in it. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and am really happy with the results. The exfoliating properties of this really do help to lift the dead, dry skin from your face in a way that isn’t overwhelming, while the creamy formula helps to add some moisture back into the skin. I was really happy to see that this didn’t leave my skin feeling dry. The Daily Microfoliant also contains Dermalogica’s Skin Brightening Complex which I do see working – my skin appears to be brighter and smoother since I’ve started using it. And yes, this really is gentle enough to use on a daily basis.
As an introduction to Dermalogica, I have to say that the Daily Microfoliant definitely met my expectations. I’ve had nothing but good experiences since I began using it and really don’t have a bad thing to say about this product. Have you ever used any Dermalogica products? Which are your favourites?
