I’m going to go ahead and say it – I’m not a big fan of winter. Sure, I enjoy the first couple of pretty snowfalls, especially around Christmas, but that doesn’t last long. Freezing cold temperatures (this year has been the worst!) & tons of snow make me want to hibernate until the sun decides it’s time to melt everything. But the worst part of winter has to be the chaos it creates for my skin. Luckily I don’t suffer from eczema, but my skin seems to hit rock bottom at this time of year. I’ve noticed that the past couple of months have been the worst for me, with a ton of dryness, flakiness everywhere and lots of breakouts that happen as a result of this.
When I was approached to try some products from the Eau Thermale Avène Xeracalm A.D. line, which was designed to treat dry, itchy skin, I knew that I had to jump on this opportunity. My skin has been driving me crazy this season, and I was eager to have a chance to try products that could actually make a difference. Avène Thermal Spring Water is behind the effectiveness of this line thanks to the Aqua Dolomia microflora. These products are all fragrance free and paraben free, meaning they’re perfect for everyone – including those of you with sensitive skin!
I had a chance to try out the Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil, Lipid-Replenishing Balm and their signature Thermal Spring Water (not part of the Xeracalm A.D. line) to see how they could help my winter worn skin. Together, they made a perfect routine to help renew my skin and its moisture levels. I start off with the Cleansing Oil, which is a very gentle, oil-based cleanser. It feels a bit more like a soap that other cleansing oils I have tried, but I actually prefer this. It has a really soft texture that is perfect for washing off my makeup. I found this especially great for washing off eye makeup, as it doesn’t sting. This is followed up by an application of the Lipid-Replenishing Balm, which is a fantastic moisturizer. It’s thick, rich and deeply, deeply hydrating once it has been absorbed. This product is my favourite of the three, and provides such great moisture that it worked really quickly to banish the flakiness that had bothering me. I also found that it did a great job of reducing redness in my skin (another thing that has been bothering me this winter). I finish off with a spritz of the Thermal Spring Water whenever my skin could use a little boost and dose of moisture. This is great for refreshing my skin and calming it when needed.
