I’ve been a Hello Kitty fan ever since I was a little girl. When I was younger, my parents would host one or two Japanese exchange students every year, which was where my love for the quirky little feline began. I was pretty young when the first one, Hiromi, came to visit, but I remember her bringing over little Hello Kitty toys for me to play with, and this became a regular occurrence with the other students who came to stay with us. Fast forward 20 years, and I still hold a soft spot in my heart for this bubbly kitty – I actually have a Hello Kitty dangling from my house keys right now.
When I first heard about the OPI Hello Kitty Collection, yes, I was pretty excited. I could just imagine the fun, girly shades that would come out as part of this, and I definitely wasn’t let down.
“We wanted to infuse this collection with all the charm and playfulness of its namesake,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Brand Ambassador, “Together with their names, these lacquers capture Hello Kitty’s world to perfection, and of course, many of the colors also echo runway trends we’ve seen for 2016. Think delicious pinks, punchy primaries, pearly white and licorice black.”
Well, I’ve since gotten my paws (lol) on the collection and I’ve got swatches (all 2 coats) to share with you below!
OPI Kitty White – Pearl-of-a-girl white – Nice and frosty, with an almost velvety finish.
OPI Charmmy & Sugar – Sparkly pink for pretty pets – This polish combines pretty frosty white shimmer with pale pink glitter, and immediately drew my attention… Mainly because it looks like a unicorn in a bottle.
OPI Let’s Be Friends! – This cotton candy pink is my new bestie – This polish was instantly one of my favourites, and the last to be swatched because I knew I was going to be wearing it afterwards (with a hint of Charmmy & Sugar for good measure). This pale pink is perfect.
OPI Look At My Bow! – This sweet-girl pink sits right at the top – SO PRETTY. Pure, shiny, bubblegum pink – I’m a simply kinda gal, and this is all I need.
OPI Small + Cute = <3 – Do the math… This baby pink is perfect. – Yup, the description pretty much nails it. Keep the pink polishes coming and I’ll be a happy girl.
OPI Spoken From The Heart – I have deep feelings for this pretty coral – for some reason, this shade makes me think of a tropical drink (which I could use right about now). It has an almost jelly-like look to it, and is reminiscent of pink grapefruit.
OPI Starry-Eyed for Dear Daniel – You will just love this fun pink super-glitter – Me, not so much. I had high hopes for this shade, but it was one of my least favourite of the bunch; I just feel like it lacks any real impact and falls short of its description. I wish it were a bit more pigmented (it can look a little washed out) and the glitter had more of a pop.
OPI Super Cute in Pink – The pinker, the better – At first coat, this wasn’t one of my favourite shades. It came out streaky and thin, and didn’t have any real body to it, but it perks up after a couple of coats. I think this shade would look great on a white base to really make it pop. It definitely has a bit of a jelly feel to it as well.
OPI My Friend Mimmy – This sunny yellow is twice as nice – And this is where the collection takes a different turn and a departure from the pretty pinks. I’m not a big fan of yellow polish typically, but this shade is so bright and cheerful & immediately put a smile on my face. Even better is the fact that it went on beautifully opaque with no streaks.
OPI 5 Apples Tall – This apple red really measures up – This red is pretty, but didn’t have the punch that I was expecting from an apple red.
OPI My Pal Joey – This true blue is always there for you – I feel like this blue is a little less typical than those we normally see, and I like it. It has an almost nautical feel about it.
OPI Never Have Too Mani Friends – Let’s ink a date for our next manicure! – Honestly, inky is the best possible word for this polish. It’s deep, it’s dark and it’s moody, with a jelly-like finish and a ton of shine. Love.
What do you think of the OPI Hello Kitty Collection? Have you/will you pick up any of these shades?
