Dry Shampoo Saviours | Skip the Wash, Keep the Clean

A photo posted by Elite Daily (@elitedaily) on

Oh, you know we’ve all been there. Whether you’re lazy, want to sleep in, don’t feel like styling your hair or just straight up want to keep working your hair’s texture, there comes a time (ok, many times) in a girl’s life where she doesn’t want to wash her hair. I try to go 3-4 days in between washes to prevent over washing and styling and to help prolong the length of my colour.

THIS is why dry shampoo is one of my best friends. It soaks up oil and refreshes your mane so you look like you just washed – perfect for getting a few extra days out of your wash. I’ve used it for years and have tried just about every one I’ve been able to get my hands on.

A few of my tips when it comes to using dry shampoo:

  • Don’t get too close – hold the can about 8-10 inches away from your hair so the product doesn’t get too concentrated in one area, which can lead to buildup and make blending more difficult (especially if you have darker hair)
  • Section it off – spray it on your roots in layers to make sure the product is dispersed evenly throughout your mane. There’s nothing worse than leaving the house only to find that a section of your hair is still visibly oily.
  • Give it time – Once you’ve applied your dry shampoo, give it time to work its magic and soak up the oil; don’t brush it through right away. Let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes – I say apply it before you start getting ready, do your makeup then massage it in.
  • Sleep on it – Better yet? Spray it on before you go to sleep, and let it work overnight. In the morning, brush your hair and wake up to fresh locks! Honestly, this is my favourite way to use it.

I’ve rounded up a few of my fave dry shampoos to hopefully help you find your new favourite. Check ’em out below. and share your dry shampoo loves in the comments below!

best dry shampoo, which dry shampoo should i try, does dry shampoo work, how to refresh your hair, how to make your hair look clean, oily hair fix, rock your hair spray it clean, rock your hair dry shampoo, l'oreal professionnel morning after dust, drybar detox dry shampoo, drybar detox dry conditioner, klorance dry shampoo, herbal essences naked dry shampoo, drugstore dry shampoo

The OG: The first dry shampoo I ever tried (years ago), and still one of my favourites to this day, the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk is the one that started my love affair with this stuff. It really is the OG of dry shampoo – it’s been around since 1971, and leaves the hair feeling fresh and clean with a little help from oat milk. Bonus: it’s now available in a shade that works better for brown to dark hair.

The Rockstar: The Rock Your Hair Spray It Clean Dry Shampoo is fantastic, and one of the best I’ve come across. The scent is super fresh, it blends in really well, and leaves my hair looking unbelievably clean while giving it great texture. Lately, I’ve found myself reaching for it more often and have had to restock a few times in the past months.

The Style Reviver: I mean, the L’Oreal Professionnel Tecni Art Morning After Dust  was named that for a reason. This invisible dry shampoo helps to add texture and gives the hair a great scent, so you can keep on looking fab when you aren’t necessarily feeling that way. Oh, and it’s invisible to HD cameras, so you don’t have to worry about it showing up on film – snap away!

The Bargain Beauty: While some of these dry shampoos come with a bit of a higher price tag than some might like to pay, there’s nothing like finding the perfect drugstore equivalent, which is why I absolutely love the Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo. Not only does it come with a price that’s lighter on the wallet, it really works. The scent is lovely, and it does a great job of refreshing my style when I’m on the go. I also find that it blends in really well compared to most other dry shampoos I’ve tried. Plus, it’s paraben free!

The Lifesaver: Running late for an important event or meeting and don’t have time to wash? the Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo will be your best friend. This dry shampoo is very lightweight, yet effective, leaving the hair looking soft and fluffy. I do find this one takes a little more work to blend into dark hair, so use it lightly – you don’t need much for it to work anyways! A light, clean scent also helps to lock in the fresh feeling.

The New Kid on the Block: Ok, though it’s not technically a dry shampoo, I felt that the Drybar Detox Dry Conditioner deserved a place on this list because it too helps to freshen up your style. While dry shampoo works on the roots, this is sprayed on the hair from midshaft through lengths, helping to soften and hydrate the hair – it’s perfect for those with dry ends who need a little help to keep their hair looking and feeling healthy as you upkeep your hair between washes. It also adds a really nice dose of shine, making this perfect before going out after a long day.

Are you a fan of dry shampoo? Which one is your favourite?
