TRAVEL | Perfect Girls’ Weekend in Dunnville, Ontario

When’s the last time you got away with one of your besties? I love planning a trip with some of my favourite gals once in a while! Don’t get me wrong, I love Mick, but sometimes you just need some good old-fashioned girl time. My friend Jenelle and I did just that a few weeks ago when we took off for a girls’ weekend in Dunnville, Ontario. The cute town isn’t a far drive from us (45 minutes from Hamilton, 1 hour 45 from Toronto) and was the perfect setting for a fun, relaxing weekend. Watch the vlog below and then read on for more details on all of the fun things Dunnville has in store.

STAY

If you’re planning on heading down, you have to stay at The Reeve Bed and Breakfast. The B&B is absolutely stunning and the owners, Lisa and Luke, are extremely accommodating and welcoming. They made us feel right at home and we instantly fell in love with the space. If you’re looking to get away with a friend or two, you might like the Reeve the Ladies to Us package that we enjoyed. It takes care of everything, including a bottle of wine, snacks and treats, a tarot card reading, dinner both nights and a fun local activity. You really have all of your bases covered for a fun girls’ weekend away and we had a blast.

EAT

While we enjoyed the incredible breakfast cooked for us at The Reeve, we ventured out to try a couple of nearby spots. Everyone we met raved about Debb’s Cuisine so we decided to check it out for dinner on our second evening (we enjoyed pizza in our suite the first). The food was incredible (I enjoyed a delicious seafood pasta) and if you’re looking for something fun, give their Ballpark Caesar a try – it comes fully loaded! For breakfast, we also stopped by Knowles Restaurant, a diner straight out of the 50s where a Stephen King miniseries was recently filmed. The breakfast was fast, tasty and classic, which is exactly what you need sometimes.

DRINK

On our way in we had the chance to stop by the Bains Road Cider Company, a small, locally-owned company, for a tasting. We had a chance to give their ciders & fortified wines a try (their Lionheart Cider was my fave!) and loved their Pumpkin Pie Liquor, which I can’t recommend enough for the fall.

In town, we also stopped by the Queens Merritt Room for a couple of drinks. Walking in the door is like stepping into a time capsule, with 132-year-old tin ceilings, exposed brick walls and a beautiful wooden bar. If you’re looking to grab a cold one while in Dunnville, this is the place to do it.

PLAY

One of the most fun things we were able to do while in Dunnville was the Purple Haven Lavender Farm Experience, Purple Haven specializes in creating amazing lavender home, body & pet products, and they’ve created this fun new way to let others learn more about the plant. During this experience, you’re able to create your own lavender soaps and bath salts and enjoy a tasty lunch with lavender-themed treats. Purple Haven is also working with the gorgeous Windecker Woods flower farm, and as part of the experience you’re able to learn more about picking & creating the perfect bouquet before making your own to bring home. Even if you’re just in the area and looking for something to do, Windecker is great for a quick stop to pick your own flowers.

Of course, if the weather is nice a beach visit is always a good idea and there are a couple of fun beaches in the area to spend some time at, including Rock Point Beach located in Rock Point Provincial Park.

Don’t forget to visit Muddy the Mudcat, one big catfish, on your way into town for a fun photo opp!

Where else do you like to visit for a girls’ weekend?

Special thanks to Ontario’s Southwest and Haldimand County for a great girls’ weekend!
