Hi, friends! Today, I want to share with you some tips for creating a morning routine that will set you up for success throughout the day. I’m not going to lie — I’m not always the best at sticking to my routines. With that being said, I find that when I put a morning routine in place (and I stick to it), I tend to be more productive and thoughtful with my day. Here are five things you can do as part of a morning routine!
- Wake up at the same time every day
One of the most important things you can do for your morning routine is to establish a consistent wake-up time. This helps regulate your body clock and can improve the quality of your sleep. Try to wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. With Canadian winters and a lack of sunlight in the morning, this can be tough. A sunrise alarm clock is a great way to combat this – it mimics the sunrise so your body wakes up more naturally.
- Hydrate with a glass of water
When you wake up, your body is often dehydrated from the hours you spent sleeping. Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning can help hydrate your body and give you a little boost of energy. Plus, it’s a great way to start the day on a healthy note! I bring a glass/bottle of water to bed with me and it’s the first thing I reach for in the morning.
- Take some time for mindfulness
Meditation or mindfulness can be a great way to start your day. It can help reduce stress and improve your focus and productivity throughout the day. Take a few minutes to breathe deeply, focus on the present moment, and set your intentions for the day ahead. I love using the Calm app for daily guided meditation. I also try (keyword: try) not to look at my phone until 8:30-9:00 am when I start working for the day.
- Move your body
Moving your body in the morning can help wake you up and get your blood flowing. You don’t have to do a full workout, but even a few minutes of stretching, yoga, or a quick walk around the block can make a big difference in how you feel throughout the day. I fit in a quick stretching sesh before I get into anything else every morning.
- Plan your day
Before you start diving into work or other activities, take a few minutes to plan out your day. Write down your goals, tasks, and priorities, and make a plan for how you’ll accomplish them. Having a plan in place can help you feel more focused and organized throughout the day.
It’s easy to create a morning routine that sets you up for success – and there’s no right or wrong way to do it! Just try a few different things until you find what works for you. So why not give it a try and see how it goes? Let me know what your morning routine is in the comments!
