A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at L’Oreal Paris’ newest nail innovations, which have already started to roll into stores (I saw the new Colour Riche Nail Lingerie in my local Shoppers Drug Mart yesterday!). While there, we got to play with some of the new shades, top coats and the Nail Lingerie while hearing about the new tips, trends, and lots of stories from celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik (he’s worked on the tips of Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lopez, Zooey Deschanel and many more). These new nail products make it easier than ever to achieve a gorgeous nail with a little something extra. Read on to learn about Tom’s hottest nail trends for 2013 and to see the new products. Let me know which of these you can’t wait to get your hands on!
Tom’s Nail Forecast for 2013:
- Full coverage nude – “Just like a nude pump that elongates the leg, nude nails elongate the fingers. The nude nail has a modern elegance, goes with everything, and is a trend that is here to stay!”
- Upscale texture – “Upscale texture is the hottest new trend in nails. Cheap sparkles and juvenile stickers are ‘out’ and upscale textures are ‘in’ featuring dimension, highlights/lowlights and shimmer. Celebrities on the red carpet can’t get enough of chunky, diamond sparkles and 3D textures that add the perfect amount of glamour to every nail look.”
- Deep rich tones – “Deep rich tones are now popular year-round shades and not just relegated to winter months of red carpets. Colours like a mysterious navy blue, classy greige, and seductive purple are perfect picks.”
- Matte nails – “Matte nails have been seen all over the red carpet on A-list celebs. The new Colour Riche Matte Top Coat will pair well with any Colour Riche polish.”
And now the fun stuff – the new products!
This year, L’Oreal Paris will be adding 9 new shades to their lineup of Colour Riche Nail Colour. Pictured above are I Pink I’m In Love, Greyt Expectations and He Red My Mind. Also included in these new shades are some more reds, nudes, a purple, black and navy – definitely adding a dramatic spin to your nails. These are available this month for $6.99 CAD.
L’Oreal Paris decided to add a super easy way to customize your favourite nail colour with the new Colour Riche Nail Lingerie, the first 3D transparent nail art stickers.
The stickers are easily applied on top of your favourite polish. Select the size that best fits your nail (L’Oreal suggests picking the size on larger than your nail because of the surface curve) and apply it (round end towards the base of the nail). Fold the end back under the nail and file off the excess! It really is that easy. The best part for me is that, since the actual sticker is transparent, it’s pretty hard to mess this one up. You end up with the perfect amount of glitz added to your fave polishes just like that. These come in a set of 18 stickers so it’s easy to find size that will fit your nails – and I suggest keeping the leftovers! You can always trim them down to size to use for an accent nail! These are available June 2013 (although I have already seen them in some stores) for $9.99 CAD.
We’ve got another way to dress up our favourite polishes with these new Colour Riche Top Coats. Pictured above are the Confetti Top Coat (combines mini black glitter and larger white glitter for an amazing speckled effect), the Gold Top Coat (jam-packed with gold glitter) and the Matte Top Coat (give the perfect matte finish). Also available are the Diamond Top Coat, the Prismatic Top Coat and the Shade Shifter Top Coat (I’m really excited to see how this one turns out). These will be available in July 2013 for $6.99 CAD.
And last, but certainly not least, we have the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Press-On Nails – probably the product that I am most excited about. I got a sneak peek at the event and received a set (pictured above) a few days ago… I couldn’t wait to try them on! My only other experience with press-on nails has been with Kiss Impress nails, where the adhesive is actually attached to the nail so you just peel and press. These nails took a different route (as seen below).
The adhesive comes in the form of separate stickers, numbered to match the nails easily. To apply, you first select the correct nail size, find the matching sticker, and apply the sticker to a clean, dry nail. You can then apply the press-on nail directly to the adhesive, pressing down firmly starting in the middle and then moving on to the sides. To make sure they really last, L’Oreal recommends repressing them a few times and keeping your hands out of the water for the first hour.
I put them on on Saturday and they are still going strong through showers, 2 bartending shifts and lots of typing (it’s now Wednesday). They claim to last up to 7 days, which I can definitely see being possible at this point. And you have no idea how many compliments I’ve gotten on these babies so far! These will be available in 8 styles (seen below) in July 2013 for $14.99).
What do you think of these? Which ones are you going to try?
