Given the fact that I’m a beauty blogger and writer, I’m sure you can easily guess that I’m a complete makeup junkie. I love it all – blushes, lipsticks, highlighters… I could go on and on for days. That being said, there’s one area in the beauty world that I go absolutely gaga for, and that would be the eyes. I find that eyes are the area where the sky is the limit. You can play with colours, finishes, lines and lashes to completely transform your eyes to anything you want really. That’s why I was really excited to see the Shu Uemura Eye Event Summer 2014 Collection. Comprised of three main items in various shades and finishes, this collection (created the help enhance Asian eyes but beautiful on anyone) was designed to “help women enjoy makeup more freely.” Between the exciting new Drawing Pencils, gorgeous Ready-to-Wear Palettes and flirty Petal Lash Mascara, there truly is a little something for everyone. I’ve been able to swatch and play with a few items from this collection. Take a look!
Shu Uemura Drawing Pencils ($28 CAD each): Liner lovers are going to go crazy for these. Waterproof, blendable and extremely pigmented, these liners are so, so perfect for summer. I find that they go right on very cleanly and smudge easily before they set if needed (once they have set, they do not budge), making a smoky eye a snap. Colour is smooth and soft, with an almost cream-like texture. And there are tons of options available – between the 21 shades and 4 textures (matte, pearl, metallic and glitter) Shu Uemura has all the bases covered.
Shu Uemura Ready-to-Wear Palette in Pink Hues ($85 CAD): Oh, this palette. I’m seriously in love. Comprised of one matte base, two matte shades (for definition) and three colours (for shading), this was instantly dubbed the Barbie palette. I mean, come on. Just look at those pink shades and try to tell me everyone’s favourite blonde bombshell wouldn’t rock them in a heartbeat… Anyways, this palette is pretty and perky, with the darker shade providing a ton of pigmentation to help give a little smoke to an otherwise perky eye. The third shade in for the left is absolutely lust-worthy; a shimmery, bubblegum pink with just enough colour to add a little extra definition to the eye. The shadows apply smoothly, aren’t chalky, and look gorgeous on. The ready-to-wear palette also comes in warm brown, black and white mono and blue morning.
Shu Uemura Petal Lash Mascara ($29 CAD): Of course, no eye-centric collection would be complete without a mascara thrown in. The really interesting part of this mascara is the brush. The applicator, inspired by the pistil of a flower, has an interesting curve and ends in a thin tip. I loved how easily I was able to get to all of my lashes with this brush – the thin end allowed me to get right into the corners to make sure that I got every lash. The formula is waterproof and long lasting and has a oily sort of feel to it. I found that one coat applied really nicely, but it tended to get a little clumpy when I went back to add in a second coat for a little more volume.
