Is summer really almost over? I swear we just got the heat and the nice weather here in Toronto recently and I’m not entirely ready to start thinking about fall… That is, until I start seeing all of the upcoming beauty collections from my favourite brands. Last week the new Essie Fall 2015 Collection landed in my mailbox and it did get me a little giddy for the cooler weather and a new colour scheme.
Designed by Essie’s new Global Color Ambassador, Rebecca Minkoff, the collection pulled inspiration from 70’s Rock ‘n’ Roll, which I’ve been all about lately (convenient, non?) – think bold shades, a punch of glam and vintage vibes. Take a look at swatches of the 6 shade collection below!
Essie Color Binge: I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure about this one at first glance. I’m not usually as big on orange-toned reds, but once I threw this on my nails my mind changed. It’s hella shiny, with a ton of pigmentation that really makes it stand out once applied.
Essie With The Band: This shade is nice and warm, with what I’ll call a spicy hue. It’s a cinnamon red, with lots of body, but it just lacked a bit of punch that I was really hoping for, though the rich colour makes it a nice addition to the typical poppy or deep reds I like to keep in my collection.
Essie In The Lobby: Of the three red shades in this collection, In The Lobby is definitely my favourite – but unfortunately the formula leaves a bit to be loved. This sultry, deep plum is all sorts of warm and ready for autumn. I do like the glossy finish, but I found that this polish was a little finicky, with a bit of a runny texture that tended to pool in certain areas when applying.
Essie Leggy Legend: I can guarantee this shimmery, coppery bronze is going to be one of the most popular shades from the collection. More gold in certain light, it’s dramatic, attention grabbing, and the ultimate embodiment of fall in a bottle.
Essie Bell Bottom Blues: This shade immediately drew my attention from the second I saw the collection. It made my inner mermaid squeal with delight. I’m not always a big fan of blue toned polishes, but this indigo shade with hints of turquoise shimmer scattered throughout is stunning. Oh, and this is one coat.
Essie Frock ‘n’ Roll: This shade was the biggest surprise for me (not that I was expecting it to look bad). Seriously, I put a coat on my nails and was mesmerized by the way a gorgeous galaxy blossomed on my tips. This shade is rock ‘n’ roll to a T. This subtly red-hued dark charcoal flecked with tiny bits of silver micro shimmer is everything. It gives off a bad ass vibe with a hint of glam thrown in for good measure. I’m obsessed. Get. This. Shade.
