As I’m sure you’ve learned by now, I’m an absolute lipstick addict. Give me a new formula, product or shade and you can keep me occupied for hours, which is pretty much how I was after discovering the new Estée Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformers ($26 CAD, exclusive to Sephora) at their launch event last week. As excited as I was to check out this exciting new line – with great packaging & some amazing products, natch – these “lipsticks” really caught my attention. I kid you not when I say that I took photos of them as soon as I got home so that I could play around with them.
So, what makes these so special? Available in two shades, Turn Up (yellow) and Turn Down (black), they were actually designed to work in tandem with any lipstick shade to customize it to your liking. Turn Up is used to brighten any shade, while Turn Down depends the intensity. I think it’s a pretty great concept, especially when you consider that many of us tend to stick to the same colour family when lipstick shopping. It’s so easy to transform any shade, and instantly broadens your lipstick wardrobe, especially between seasons!
So, how do you use it? I personally like to start by applying a coat of my lipstick of choice to moisturized lips (here I’ve used the Estée Edit Mattified Lipstick in You’re Welcome, which I also adore on its own). After this, I apply the Lip Flip directly over the lipstick, and use my finger to blend and combine the two shades. Afterwards, if I want to change the intensity, I will either apply more lipstick or more of the Lip Flip as needed. They add just the right amount of colour to adjust the lipstick’s shade without overwhelming it. Just a warning – Turn Down is a little harder to work with and blend in, but it’s my personal favourite (I like going darker).

These are easy to use with any colour and add a really nice boost to existing lipsticks. I can’t wait to play around with some of my fave shades to see what I can come up with!
Would you use a lipstick transformer?
