I just love a good drugstore find. With the price of some palettes these days getting pretty hefty, I love having a combination of luxury and more budget-friendly picks in my makeup bag; it helps to keep both my wallet and my makeup-loving self happy. The COVERGIRL truNaked Jewels palette ($12.97 CAD) definitely fits into this category, and I’ll tell you why.
First of all, I love a palette that has a bit of colour in it – bolder shadows are always great for mixing into eye looks and for having a bit of fun. This palette has a selection of 8 shadows, including a range of matte, shimmer and sparkly shades. It has a few lighter shades (that are perfect if you’ve ever wanted to be a unicorn princess; hell, who hasn’t?), two bold, pigmented hues (blue and purple), shimmering gold and green shades and a sparkly black.
I really wish that I could have more accurately captured the first shade; it’s hard to see here, but it has this beautiful iridescent look to it with splashes of light pink in the light. It’s a gorgeous highlighting shade that I will definitely be using with other palettes and looks.
The shadows have nice pigment to them, and several shades that make for great highlighting (see the 1st, 3rd and 7th shadows). They are really blendable and build up to heavier colour if needed. They do tend to fade a bit throughout the day, so I suggest starting with a primer and finishing with a setting spray to ensure longer wear.
The shimmer in a few of the shadows is gorgeous – nice and soft, bringing a bit of a multi-tone look to them, which I love. The boldness of the purple and blue shadows also make them favourites for me; I can definitely see myself using them to add depth to many different looks.
What do you think of the COVERGIRL truNaked Jewels palette? Do you have any other jewel tones you like?
